About

We are a youth-led movement driving climate action,
environmental stewardship, and sustainable community

Our Story

From a small community group to a county-wide movement.

Green Minds Youth Initiative was founded by Alice Loiton from a shared passion for environmental conservation and youth empowerment in Kwale County. It began as a small community group in Waa Location and grew into a recognized youth-led organization working in schools and communities across Kwale County.

Founder's Journey

From a small community group to a county-wide movement.

My name is Alice Loiton, and my journey is one of resilience, opportunity, and purpose. Born in Turkana, I was separated from my parents at eight and raised by my grandmother through difficult circumstances.

My life changed when Mekaela Academies recognized my potential and gave me an opportunity to continue my education in Mombasa. That opportunity opened a new path and shaped my belief in the power of support and opportunity.

As I grew, my experiences inspired me to pursue youth mentorship, life skills, and community empowerment. In 2023, I joined SambaSports Youth Trust, where environmental work, mentorship, and community engagement strengthened my passion for protecting the environment and empowering young people.

After receiving a three-year environmental fellowship, I turned that vision into action. In 2024, I officially registered Green Minds Youth Initiative as a Community-Based Organization, transforming a personal journey of hardship and hope into a mission to empower young people and build greener, stronger communities.
